Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 11, 2026 (photos; no AI; delete everything and download a copy)
Brain Dump is a personal, non-commercial project. This page explains what it stores and why.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and profile picture (if you sign in with Google), or the name and email you enter when creating an account.
- What you put in the app: your notes, voice recordings, and anything else you save.
- Session data: a sign-in cookie, plus your IP address and browser type recorded with each session for security.
How it's used
Only to run the app for you: signing you in, saving your notes and showing them back to you. Your data is never sold, shared for advertising, or shown to other users.
Google sign-in
If you sign in with Google, the app only requests your basic profile (name, email, picture). It does not access your Gmail, Drive, Calendar or any other Google data.
Where it's stored
Data is stored with the app's hosting providers: Vercel (hosting and file storage) and Neon (database). Passwords are stored only as secure hashes.
Voice notes
Voice recordings are stored privately and can only be played back by you. To show words while you speak, the app uses your browser's built-in speech recognition; in Chrome and Edge this sends the audio to the browser maker's speech service (Google or Microsoft). The “Transcribe on this device” option runs entirely on your phone or computer and sends your audio nowhere.
Photos
Before a photo leaves your phone, Brain Dump makes a smaller copy and drops everything hidden inside the original file, including the location where it was taken. Only that smaller copy is stored, privately, and only you can see it. Photos you share into Brain Dump from other apps are handled the same way.
No AI
Brain Dump doesn't send your notes, voice recordings or photos to any AI service. Sorting suggestions come from simple rules that run on your own device.
Deleting your data
Settings → Delete everything removes all of your dumps, filed items, paused notes, voice recordings and photos straight away, from our database, our file storage and the device you're using. Settings → Download a copy gives you everything you wrote first, as a file. To delete your account itself too, open an issue on the project's GitHub page.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will be updated.
